Abstract

It is generally accepted that society is rapidly becoming informational and that the future will be an age of information. That is, in future society, information will play a more important role than natural energy sources in both social and educationtional fields.
Highly developed techniques based on computer systems and communicational techniques will bring significant innovation not only to society in general to but also to nursing.
Especially in nursing education, CAI is needed because of individual instruction. CAI is Computer Assisted Instruction. It is important that nursing education is innovated. According to Betfry, nursing students who used computer assisted instruction learned more than those who had traditional instruction, and did so in less time. The students also developed positive attitudes toward computer as an instructional method.
Also, the learning from CAI have several benefits : the development of decision making skill, the use of effective time, direct feedback, individualization and stimulation(Murphy 1983).
This study from literatures can find several use of CAI for nursing education. First of all, CAI can learn from direct interaction between learner and instructor and then CAI contribetes to individual learning.
The second CAI provides students with the opportunity to make decisions about problems and to solve clinical problems. That is, students can apply learning through CAI stimulations program later in actual decision making situations.
The third, educational implication is using CAI as an continued education strategy.
Therefore the use of CAI in nursing education have a series of advantages. According to Romano(1990), the mordern nursing role is to take the explosion of new information and find new and better ways to deliver care. Nurising has the role of innovator in the 1990s.
CAI in nursing education is becoming very available. Nursing education needs to develop effective CAI and to that end, needs not only faculty support and creative ideas but also CAI prograrn financial support.
